In the mid of battling the Covid19 pandemic, fake news about the pandemic flooded over the internet. The spreading misinformation can strongly influence people’s behavior and alter the effectiveness of pandemic’s countermeasure set by the government. Several efforts have been made to identify fake news using such computational techniques. However, studies focusing on how people identify the fake news and how they respond to the news are very limited.
Using the signal detection theory (SDT), Daffa sought to address this research gap by investigating how gender and ages influence human ability in identifying fake news related COVID-19. The SDT framework identifies human performance in terms of their ability to differentiate between fake and real news, and their decision bias toward the pandemic-related news.
This morning (06/12), Daffa presented the results of his study and successfully completed the online oral defense.
